Some general ranting…

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on March 25, 2010 by Yasmin Heartsdale

My readers will have to excuse me on this post, just a few rants about a behavior or two in Second Life that seems to be picking up some steam of late.

Those that know me well know I am, among other things, a profile whore.  I love to read profiles.  The more interesting someone makes their profile, the more likely I am to engage in activities with them.  Sadly, the inverse is also true.

I’ve spotted a slight trend among newer residents to Second Life, granted some of you old cronies are guilty of this as well, but the higher scale seems to be associated with newer accounts.

First off, this is Second Life.  A “virtual” community.  If I do something, or engage in an activity or past time that offends the cousin of the brother of an alt of someone you have professed your love for in your picks, please, don’t look like a jackass by telling the world that you will “rain misery and despair upon my head for all time and make me rue the day I first logged onto Second Life.”

Don’t laugh.  This language is out there in someone’s profile.  I seriously can’t make up stuff this amusing.

My first, and perhaps only reply is simply, “bring it”.  You and what pixel army?  Ninety-nine percent of us, upon even receiving the start of an IM thread in which you even begin to rant about something we may have said that rubbed your one true love the wrong way, will simply mute you.  Chances are you’ll then send eight or nine curse laced messages before you get the hint.  So my advice; don’t even bother.

And speaking of IMs, if I see one more pick in a profile stating that said owner of profile reserves the right to post anything I send to them in IM or say to them in a conversation in open, so help me…..I’ll rain misery and despair upon your head for all time and make you….oh damn, now I’m doing it.

In all seriousness, step away from in-world for a moment and take the time to log onto SecondLife.com and read the community standards.  No.  Not the TOS.  The community standards.  Specifically, the Big Six that “will result in suspension or, with repeated violations, expulsion from the Second Life Community.”

Number four is the one that I direct you to, titled “Disclosure”;

“Residents are entitled to a reasonable level of privacy with regard to their Second Life experience. Sharing personal information about a fellow Resident –including gender, religion, age, marital status, race, sexual preference, and real-world location beyond what is provided by the Resident in the First Life page of their Resident profile is a violation of that Resident’s privacy. Remotely monitoring conversations, posting conversation logs, or sharing conversation logs without consent are all prohibited in Second Life and on the Second Life Forums.”

You’ll note that at no time does Linden Labs authorize you to blanket waive this standard by stating so in your profile.  You send me an IM telling me I have sweet blue eyes, and I can post that IM to another person telling them you think they have a big ass.  Conversation logs are about as secure as, well, honestly, OpenCollar restraints.

But, I’ll play along, since this blog site is listed in my profile and therefore should have been read by you;

I hereby do not waive my right to Linden Labs’ community standards regardless of any language you may have authored and submitted into your profile and you agree that at no time will you commit any act that might not make me look like the sweet and affable soul I truly am.  You also admit, albeit not in words to myself or directly to any other resident of Second Life, that I am your Goddess, and you love me.  Cause I rock.  This language void in Nebraska.

There, that’s off of my chest.

Oh, in closing, I will state that from time to time I drop in on the works of people with whom I have conflicts in Second Life.  You know the saying about keeping thy friends close and thy enemies closer…

There is a very recent post on the blog authored by the owner of the sim of whom we do not speak.  That post is very much on point.  Taraa, sweetie, I love you dearly, you know this.  If you’ve never listened to me before, please do so now.  Let. It. Go.  The people you hate will only control and consume you.

Wherefore Art Thou?

Perhaps the hardest aspect of Second Life is when people vanish.  Real life is of course expected at some point to intervene in our Second Life experience eventually.

For some of our loved ones, its been very harsh.  The landscape is littered with memorials to those that have fallen in Real Life.  As you saw in an earlier post, the American Cancer Society has a sim dedicated to some of these souls that have been confirmed and reported as lost to cancer.

But no doubt the worse is when someone we love and cherish simply vanishes without an explanation.  At times like those, we pray and hope that the worse has not occurred, that real life simply became “too noisy”.  That one’s work commitments or family obligations became so present in one’s life that they simply no longer had the time for Second Life.

Those that know me in Second Life know of my former Mistress, Idoru Ryba.  Idoru logged off a few days before Thanksgiving, and has not been heard from since.

Regardless of what the avatar of Idoru Ryba represents to me in Second Life, the person behind the keyboard in Real Life is a friend.  I pray and hope that where ever that person is, or whatever that person is doing, health and happiness are in abundance.

If you are reading this Idoru, you are loved, and sorely missed.  By me, your friends, and your family.

Gra, Dilseacht, Cairdeas.

Re-Opening

The new island(s) are done.  Once again, many many many many thanks go to Tania Owatatsumi and Dei Quan.  Tania did an excellent job on the terrain and shape of our islands and Dei made a lovely welcoming lighthouse and bridge.  Truly good friends to have.

As requested by Anna on the prior post, here are some pictures of our new home.

We are still in the process of placing some toys and devices.  I’m making a better effort to focus on quality this time around, not quantity.  I’ve also incorporated a few more cuddle spots around the main fortress.

Speaking of the fortress, I have decided to name it Caer Heartsdale, or “Home of Heartsdale”.

For those of you that visited for the purposes of relaxing and chatting on our deck, we have moved this area to the top terrace of the castle, east side.  A couple of people have observed that this is close to the chat range of the private bedrooms, part of the main floor and part of the dungeon.  However, feedback from the majority tells me this was the right move to make.  Seems people do like a castle and patio close together.  Who knew?

Anyhoo, this is the new Yasminia.  We are officially re-opened.  Stop by.  Relax.  Enjoy.

Love,

Yasmin and her Brats

Remodeling

Just an FYI, our sim, Yasminia, is currently undergoing a major overhaul and remodeling.  Please excuse the mess if you visit it this week.
